    • Farm and Farmers of Pictou County by R.H. Ward
      Six Mile Brook - 2 June 1922
      George D. McKenzie
This property formerly belonged to Watson Sutherland, tailor, who is now in Saskatoon. George D. McKenzie purchased it fourteen years ago. He is a son of Donald McKenzie, Dalhousie Mountain. George was for some years in the United States. Returning to get Sutherland property and settle down to farming. He had not been on the place six months when his house was totally destroyed by fire, everything being lost. The labour and expense of building a new house and furnishing it throughout was no small thing to undertake, but he went at it with determination to come out on top, and as it always is, where there is a will, he succeeded. He married Bessie, daughter of Philip MacKenzie, C.B. and they have a family: Harold A., Russell P., Ruth A., Donald M., Milton, all at home. There are 50 acres in the property, 30 of which are cleared and 20 under cultivation. Crop yield last year, was 11 ton of hay, 200 bus. of oats, 110 bus. of potatoes, 60 bus. of turnips. Stock: 6 had of cattle, 4 milkers, 2 horses. Mr McKenzie is a carpenter by trade and away from home considerable.
