Run Down by Dundee Train
Stirling Surfaceman Cut to Pieces
On Saturday afternoon Alexander Menzies, 74 years of age, residing at Campbell's Buildings, Stirling, a surfaceman in the employment of the Caledonian Railway Company, was run down and cut to pieces by the train from Dundee due at Stirling at one o'clock, at a part of the line between the bridge over the Causewayhead Road and Cornton. He was walking in the four-foot way examining the metals, and apparently did not observe the approach of the train, which was rounding a curve at the time, at a speed of about 60 miles an hour. The driver was keeping a look-out for the signals, but the fireman caught a glimpse of Menzies and sounded the whistle. Menzies glanced up in a startled manner, but was not in time to get clear of the express. He leaves a widow and gown-up family.
