OBITUARY
MR. T. R. LOZELL.
A wave of regret and sorrow was felt throughout the town and district of Forbes on Saturday morning, when it was learned that Mr. T. Lozell, one of Forbes' most popular and esteemed residents, had passed away at "Brentwood" Private Hospital.
The late Mr. T. Lozell was widely known and respected, being clerk of the Jemalong Shire Council since the inception of that body, as well as being secretary of the Forbes Pastures Protection Board, in which capacities he came in touch with everyone.
It may well be said of him that he ranked among the most efficient clerks in the Local Government Association, a statement that will receive emphatic endorsement from
everyone who had the pleasure of coming into contact with him, and his work was always of the highest standard.
Some weeks ago he was confined to his bed with an injured knee, at which time he also contracted influenza, and although he resumed his duties for a few days, he did not look
at all well. His unfortunate end was heralded by a paralytic stroke at his home on Wednesday morning, just as he was preparing to leave his office.
He was immediately conveyed to "Brentwood" Private Hospital, but did not regain consciousness, and succumbed at an early hour on Saturday morning from cerebral hemorrhage. His death is one of the saddest that has ever occurred here, and he is survived by a widow and two young children.
Mr. Lozell was born at Burrowa, but his family later moved to Cowra, and thence to Forbes while he was still a mere boy. Here he grew to manhood respected by everyone, his
friends being the rich and poor alike, and his death will mark the breaking of many happy associations in our large community.
Apart from the two public positions above mentioned, he was for many years associated with the Forbes P. A., and H. Association as a committeeman, and was also a valuable
member of the committee of the Forbes District Hospital. His services on behalf of both these bodies can only be appreciated at their true worth by those who were his fellow
copunitteemen.
But his interest in the welfare and popularity of the town and district did not end there, as he was a keen supporter of all branches of sport. His association of many years with
the Forbes Jockey Club was recognised by his topping the poll in the penultimate annual ballot for committee, and by his unanimous appointment to one of the two vice-presidencies of the same club at its last annual meetting a few months ago. For years he never missed a meeting on the local racecourse, while he was also a regular attendant at Parkes, Cowra, and other surrounding meetings, his interest being the sheer love of the sport.
It says much for him that his infirmity caused by infantile paralysis, which left him to walk through his 51 years of life on a crutch, did not in any way abate his energy and cheerfulness.
In the opinion of the Council he served so long and well his place will be hard to fill, and that opinion is endorsed by the general public.
For the bereft relatives the greatest sympathy is felt, these being his widow and two little daughters, Nita and Marjorie, an aged mother, three brothers, Harry (Sydney), Fred, and Edward (Forbes), and two sisters, who are Mrs. Owen (Newcastle) and Mrs. Eastmuir (Sydney).
The funeral was on Saturday afternoon from the Roman Catholic Church, where mass was held. The funeral procession, which was conducted by Messrs. A. H. Williams and Co., was one of the largest and most representative that has ever entered the cemetery gates, a tribute to the memory of a man who was a real man in every sense of the word's meaning. May his soul rest in peace.
