OBITUARY
The Late Mrs. M. L. Higgins
As briefly reported in our last issue, the death of a life-long resident of the Forbes district, in the person of Mrs.
Mary Lydia Higgins, aged 78, took place in the District Hospital last Thursday, after an illness extending over the past 14 months. In that time deceased had been in and out of hospital on no less than nine occasions, and she had
been an inmate of the institution continuously since last May.
Deceased, who was born at Forbes, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William S. Burt, who came out
from England to this country in the "Mayflower," a sailing ship, and settled at Wongajong during the days of
the mining rush. She was the only surviving member of the Burt family, the late Mr. Joe Burt having been a brother.
The deceased was the relict of the late Thomas Higgins and is survived by a family of two sons and three
daughters. The sons are Messrs Thomas S. (Queensland) and John W. (Forbes), while the daughters are Mesdames McKay (Emily), of Forbes, Bathgate (Ada) and Hardwood (Mabel), both of Sydney. There are also 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral on Saturday was to the Church of England cemetery, Rev. A. E. White performing the last sad rites
at the graveside, while Mr. A. G. Jones directed the obsequies.
