Notes - The Hillgrove Guardian - Death of Mrs Morrow, Senr.
It becomes our sad duty to record the death of Mrs Morrow, senr., who passed away at her daughter's (Mrs Burrowes') residence, Balmain, on Tuesday night, at the advanced age of 75 years. It will be remembered that the venerable old lady some few weeks ago fell and fractured her thigh while visiting the Newcastle Anglican Catherdral, and she was conveyed from there to Sydney by her daughter-in-law (Mrs Robt. Morrow), who had accompanied her from Hillgrove. The sufferer was taken to her daughter's residence and attended by Dr. Finlay. Everything that medical aid and skillful nursing could avail was done for her, but she never seemed to rally much, and finally commenced to sink very rapidly until the hour came for her passage from this mundane sphere. Although deceased had reached the allotted span, and was noticed to be failing greatly since her husband died nine months ago, no doubt the unfortunate accident accelerated her death. The late Mrs Morrow was a native of Donegal, Ireland, and came to New South Wales with her uncle (the late Mr. Edward Allingham, of Armidale) 58 years ago, being then only 17 years of age. Some few years afterwards she married the late Mr George Morrow, and they had resided in Armidale district during the whole of their married life, and reared a large and respected family. Deceased had been a resident of Hillgrove during the past 18 years. The surviving members of the family are - Robert, James, Richard (Hillgrove), George and Johnstone (Inverell), and Alfred (New Zealand), and Mrs Burrrowes (Sydney) , Mrs Rathbone and Mrs Collins (Hillgrove). There is one daughter deceased (Mrs M. Roberts). She also leaves 33 grand children and one great grand child. The corpse, which was enclosed in polished cedar coffin silver-mounted, was conveyed from Sydney to Armidale by train, whither it arrived on Thursday morning in charge of Mr George Morrow (son of deceased), amd was met by other members of the family and sympathisers, and brought to Hillgrove, Mr Hirschberg being the undertaker. (the rest of the article is partially missing and unreadable).
