OBITUARY.
MR. WILLIAM LOVE.
The death of Mr. William Love, which took place at Grafton on October 5, removes from the Camira Creek district one of its oldest and most respected pioneers. Coming from the North of Ireland twenty years ago, he had resided there ever since. Born on Boa Island, Lough Erne, Cty. Fermanagh, in 1853, he had a life-long experience on the land. In his native land he was for 16 years on Mr. T. S. Porter's model farm at Clogher Park, Cty. Tyrone, during Mr. Porter's tenure of office as Land Commissioner and of the Board of Agriculture and Technical Instruction. Of this period he occupied, the position of land steward for nine years. It is interesting to note that it was during his time at Clogher Park that spraying with Burgundy and Bordeaux mixture was first successfully done on a large scale for blight in potatoes. This was also one of the first farms to manufacture creamery butter in a dairy which, although it is forty years ago, would be considered now up to date in construction, the power being steam, and the separator Alpha Laval. He was also on the Waterfoot and Erne estates. One daughter, Kathleen, in 1916, and two sons, Alfred in 1916, and Harry, 41st Battalion, A.I.F., killed in action, Passchendaele Ridge, 5th October, 1917, predeceased him. He is survived by his widow, of Camira Creek, four sons, John (Wollongbar), George (Kymnumboon, Tweed), David (Whiporie), Edwin (late Engineers, A.I.F., Gulgong), and six daughters; Mrs. Mules (Rappville), Mrs. Knock (Balmain), Mrs. C. Small (Camira Creek), Mrs. Hammerton (Hurlston Park), Mrs. Price (Brisbane), and Mrs. Burchardt (Newcastle).
There are 34 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral took place on the 6th instant to Grafton cemetery from St. Luke's Church, where a short service was held by Rev. Lewis, who also officiated at the graveside. The chief mourners were John, George, and David (sons), Mrs. Mules, Mrs. Knock, Mrs. C. Small, Mrs. Price and Mrs. Burchardt (daughters), C. Small (brother-in-law), Mrs. D. Love (sister-in-law), and Robert Love (grandson).
