A convivial gathering took place at the E. and A. Company's offices, at the Quay, yesterday, to wish success to Captains A. E. Dabelle and St. John George, in connection with their commands out of the port. Captain Dabelle retains charge of tho Guthrie, recently purchased by Messrs. Burns, Pliilp, and Co., which starts on her voyage to Singapore under the new flag to-day. Captain George, late of the E. and A. Company's Airlie, has been appointed to the command of the Macquarie, late Duke of Sutherland, now loading at Sydney for Japan. Captain S. G. Green, marine superintendent of the E. and A. Company, testified to the esteem, in which Captains Dabelle and Georgo had been held by the company, and also referred to the able manner in which they had, during their long connection with the service, worked in tho interests of the E. and A. line. He concluded by wishing them every success in their new commands. Mr. R. T. Remington, Mr. C. J. Heuty, and Mr. H. W. Carey fully endorsed the sentiments expressed by Captain Green, and all joined in wishing the two captains a long and prosperous career.
Captain Dabelle suitably acknowledged the compliment paid him, and Mr. G. George replied on behalf of his brother, Captain St. John George, who was unable to he present. Other
toasts were honored, including the E. and A. line, the managing agents, Messrs. Gibbs, Bright, and Co., and the popular marine superintendent, Captain S. G. Green. The speeches
all tended to show the friendly relations existing among the officers of the E. and A. Company's steamors, the merchants of Sydney, and the executive of the line.
