Tracking Where People Went

It is quite easy to use Google Maps to track the lives of our ancestors. I used this blog post: Google and Maps for Genealogists: Tracking Where You’ve Been to find out how to do it.

The map below shows the journey of my gggrandparents, Angus McKenzie and Margaret MacDonald, who both were born near the shore of Loch Torridon, married at Cromarty and died in Stanley, Perthshire. I have also added to the map the location of birth of each of their eight children and where they were when the census was taken.

To see a list of location markers, click on the icon to the left of the map heading. To see the map in full screen, click on the “four corners” icon at the far right of the map header. The map is fully interactive and can be zoomed in and out and moved. It is also possible to click any of the location markers to see what event took place at that location.
