R.A.A.F. BOMBER MISSING OLD I.G.S. PUPIL IN CREW
Setting out on a night flying exercise to seaward on Friday an R.A.A.F. bomber did not return. It is now presumed to be lost. The bomber carried a crew of four sergeants, three of whom were Queenslanders. They have been reported missing.
They are Sergeant Peter Kirk Crombie (20), single, formerly of Longreach, Queensland, and Fitzroy, Victoria, pilot: Sergeant Peter Crlbb (20), single, formerly of Brisbane, observer; Sergeant Bruce Wellesley Morrow (20), single, formerly of Hornsby, New South Wales, wireless air gunner; and Sergeant Alfred John Carl (21), single, formerly of Adelaide and Booie, via Kingaroy. Queensland, wireless air gunner.
The first three were born within one week of one another. Crombie was fully trained in Australia, and held the Bronze Medal of the Royal Life Saving Society. He was a clerk before enlisting in the R.A.A.F. in June last year.
Cribb was taking his arts course at Brisbane University when he enlisted in the R.A.A.F. in March last year. He had been fully trained in Australia.
Morrow had gained his wireless and air gunner's badge after training in Australia and Canada. He was a clerk before enlistment in March, 1941.
Carl was a clerk before enlisting in April last year. He had been fully trained in Australia.
Sergeant Cribb was well-known in Ipswich, where he had many relatives. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Cribb of Junior Creek, near Richmond, he also is a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Cribb, formerly of Ipswich. He was educated at the All Souls' Church of England School at Charters Towers, and at the Ipswich Grammar School where he
spent four years as a boarder.
Cribb passed his Junior and Senior at Ipswich and later entered the Queensland University as an arts student. He was a noted distance runner, and won the Great Public Schools half mile and mile events at Brisbane in the one afternoon. Cribb also was a former State Junior champion over half a mile. At the University he showed distinct
      promise.
